Just got here to Copenhagen. Have taken Canal Digital - is this the best for United matches - it seems Viasat show the Euro games. Can you get SKY and BBC over here.

Currently listening to England being hammered by Croatia...god, Beckham will come on next.......

Canal Digital is the best (or the only one really) for Premiership matches - all Uniteds matches are on live (well, only second half against Blackburn, but 99 percent of United matches are shown live).

I guess for cup matches (CL, FA, Whatsisname) Viasat is the best (and also the only one).

A lot of pubs show live football, and most of these show both Sky and BBC, but I gather this requires a special card for the satellite receiver.

Overall I guess the best for United matches would be a trip down the pub - I believe The Happy Pig/Den Glade Gris is where United supporters in Copenhagen meet up for a pint and a singsong (never been there myself as I live miles away).

As for England - well, United > England. Wouldn't mind the lads getting some rest this summer, but apparently it's game on now.

Enjoy your stay overhere (for whatever reason you have decided to leave UK in favour of Denmark?).

wait a minute.... there's a HUGE difference between Canal Digital and Canal Plus.

Canal Plus is an international tv station(originally French).
Canal Digital is a Scandinavian tv service provider.

Canal Plus holds the rights for the Premiership, so if you want to see Premiership, this is the one....
You can get Canal Plus through: YouSee.dk (TDC), Canal Digital, Stofanet, Dansk Bredbånd, Comx and FastTV. Checkout canalplus.dk for more details.

I presume you already have Canal Plus through your Canal Digital-subscription, so you should be okay for most of United's games.

Regarding the cup games, then Viasat is your answer.
They hold the rights for Champions League, The FA Cup and The League Cup.
They show their Champions League games on 3+, while the cup games are on their minor sports channels like Viasat Sport 1, 2, 3.
On Viasat Sport 2 you can also see selected programmes from MUTV, if that's interesting.

regarding sky and bbc
As each tv station holds the exclusive rights for each country, you cannt just order sky or BBC in another country. In Denmark the premiership is owned by Canal Plus, therefore they are the only ones to show it.

There's a en escape though... an escape which all the English pubs in Denmark uses.
You simply get a friend in the UK to subscribe for SKy in the UK and then bring the card and the receiver to Denmark.
This is how it works on every pub in Copenhagen.

Anyway... remember that you can catch every United game together with a lot of United fans at the happy Pig(Den Glade Gris) in Copenhagen.

Sorry - my mistake. Casper is quite right regarding Canal Digital and Canal Plus.

No doubt that Canal Plus is the best for United and Premiership football in general, but Kanal 5 also show the early Saturday kickoffs.

Cheers Guys,
Yes, the guy who fitted Canal Plus into the house gave me the offer of sorting SKY out. Some people are saying that UK's Slingbox allows you to download SKY in another country via the internet - there seems to be contradictions when you look this up on the web.
The other alternative is to buy stolen SKY un-locked cards from Liverpool!

This is what you should do:

Buy a satellite reciever that'll pick up Super Sport (see below), buy the Super Sport card, which you can online (just google it) or try Ebay, it'll cost you around £300 depending what website you buy it off.

Now, there's a bit of confusion as to wether the card is valid for 12 months or for the season, so make sure you check this out before buying anything.

Super sport shows every single premiership game and cup game.
Problem solved and no need to pay canal plus, digital or viasat...

your dish needs to pick up:
Satellite: EUTELSAT W2 at 16 degrees East
Encryption: CONAX
Frequency: 11,092 V
Symbol Rate: 32000
FEC: 3/4
New Channel Frequencies:-
Frequency: 11,053 V
Symbol Rate: 22000
FEC: 2/3

Boock - cheers and I appreciate the details...but I haven't got a physics degree and I've only just figured out the IPOD!
I think long term this may be the option - or I have some mates who can hook me up with unlocked SKY cards. The following combination is currently up and running;

- season tickets at United - so that's once a month fly back
- Canal Plus - most of the United Prem. games are on
- UEFA on-line stream - for the Champ League and a few away games
- The Happy Pig - we're moving to Horsholm so this should be an option now
- Slingbox - I'm hoping to patch that from the UK direct to my PC in DK - thus all the SKY channels.
- the link pm'd to me from greatdane looks interesting....

@Stretford End 2:
did you manage to get the link working the other day?

Stretford End 2
11-12-2007, 18:50
Greatdane,
Sorry for the delay in this...went back to Mcr last week and managed to catch both Fulham and Derby.
No, did not try the link but used the UEFA link instead. Will try your link this week.
Under-discussion in the UK it seems that either the Slingbox or the D-Box is another option. The Slingbox can be used to switch sat. signalls from the UK to any PC...so that's an option as I have several options on SKY/Sentenna for that one.
The other one, D-Box is new to me but word on the street is that it connects to a PC and finds TV signalls on the web and decodes them for your PC - it offers, I am told, HD quality. Any ideas on these one's?

Never heard of those two - and basicly i havn't got a clue how these work. But it sound nice with HD quality. So is it a real box or some kind of software or?

Stretford End 2
12-12-2007, 20:33
Slingbox - you need sat provider; basically it is a box which acts as a re-router to a pc via the web. Not sure about how that works' but it is legal. It means you can watch TV anywhere in the world. So, using it to watch SKY in DK via someone in the UK is ok.
D-Box (or Dreambox), as I understand it (from the web last night!) is some German kit which was used by a German satellite provider. It connects, via password, to the net and you access all the channels on line. But the software used to de-code the satellite programmes could also de-code many other countries satellite and cable channels (e.g. SKY). These boxes are now sold on ebay and whilst it is legal to own one (you can use it to download music, images, etc) it is illegal to download de-coded TV images. I have read that SKY are broadcasting messages warning people not to do this. If you Google Dreambox you'll get the picture - so to speak.

What's interesting about this technology (and Old Trafford is well into its 3rd year of pilot testing in the Far East) is that the BIG clubs don't want anymore to do with the FA's control over negotiating TV rights in the UK and MUFC/Glazier Inc have concluded that to offer on-demand games via manutd.com will be far more of a money spinner than the current offerings they have. In addition, they can get over the UK's OFCOM laws relating to broadcast rights - a very bizzare rule where it seems the world wide web has geographical boundries. Imagine their market place for on-demand United games.

There has also been lots of testing done when they had Vodafone sponsorship on the United members (those without S/Tickets) about on-demand games via 3G, etc. It seems well over 70% responded they would attend less regularly if they could access the matches outside of Old Trafford.

So, United have massive dilemma's. Alienate more fans by charging for on-demand games? Increase revenue by moving to on-demand? Make Old Trafford 100% Season Ticket PLUS Cup Match Tickets (I think this will end next season - it's against most consumer laws in the UK). Whatever, I think United will absolutely use manutd.com to control their on-line markets - Red Issue have been on this story for the last couple of issues now.

Which brings me back - sorry a bit long winded - to the above boxes. The web is alive with hackers and with very single piece of new technology which requires fee-based access, there is someone there to hack it and offer it for free. The revolution will be televised!

The one downside of clubs offering on-line access to games is that it may keep the scally burglers away Steve Gerrards house!

Hillarious Gerrard-joke :p HAHA

So you'll buy the D-box and no monthly payments and you'll find a computer-freak who cracked the bastard and then you got HD-quality fotty on the computer for free? sounds to good to be real.. Nice!

Just a question - weren't you the guy who earlier said : i just figured out Ipod?

you seem to know stuff ;)

basically too much free time to surf the t'internet.

Chelsea 1 - Arse 1
what do you reckon?

Something like your guess, but it is so difficult to say. Chelski without Drogba and Ars without prettyboy Fabre. I'm hoping for John O'shea again. Went to the united-pub "the happy pig" in Copenhagen last time - great atmousphere there.

Livp 0 - MUFC 2
Chelsea 0 - Ars 0
