Red stars on parade at Chester Races

THEY are the newly crowned Premiership champions, so the entire Manchester United team couldn't resist an impromptu lap of honour around Chester racecourse's Parade Ring yesterday.
The team - led by triumphant manager Sir Alex Ferguson - caused ripples of excitement among race-goers as they made their surprise entrance. As they made their way through the crowds and the winner's enclosure - aptly enough - there was rapturous applause.
And they certainly dressed up for the occasion all stylishly suited and booted and giving all the fine fillies a run for their money on Ladies Day.
After greeting fans the team headed off to a private luxury tent on the course where they were treated to a gourmet lunch by celebrity chef Paul Heathcote and had champagne and beer on ice.
Then it was onto the serious business of racing. Players including Gary Neville, Rio Ferdinand and Paul Scholes were seen placing their bets and celebrating victories during the afternoon.
Bird's eye view
At one point the entire team delighted fans by walking back out onto the main course and asking to get a bird's eye view from a broadcasting observation deck and while it gave them an ideal view across the course it also meant celeb watchers had the perfect angle for photos of their football heroes.
And United wasn't the only football presence at the racecourse. Newcastle United star Michael Owen was spotted entertaining a raft of his team-mates in a private box at the course.
And just yards away in the County Stand who should also be relaxing but former Bolton Wanderers boss Sam Allardyce. Rumours continue to mount as to which club Big Sam will sign to after his shock departure from Wanderers.
Newcastle remains one of the favourites to sign him up so let's hope Michael and the lads were on their best behaviour under the eye of their potential new boss.
